postheadericon TV Walker Twin – LR540 Vista Install

This little guide will show you ho to get the Lifeview tv walker twin installed under windows Vista (this guide was done under windows vista home basic 32-bit.

First up plug the unit into the computers USB ports and windows will detect the unit and ask you where the driver file are located.

From the image below you can see the drivers had been installed correctly (these drivers are 2k/xp drivers, but will work under vista (32-bit) because to be honest vista doesn’t really care)

A driver is a bunch of files like .inf .dll files etc that tell windows how to use and communicate with the hardware.

all installed

Now you will need to install the lifeview MVP program, seen below it has installed successfuly.

lifemvp now installed

When you run the MVP software for the first time or any time it will display the error message as in the picture below.

LR540 Vista Install

wrong operating system detected

To get around this right click on the MVP shortcut on the desktop or in the start menu and choose properties and then choose the compatibility tab and click the Run this program in compatibility mode for: and choose Windows XP (SP2), click apply and then OK to close the program.

Now when you launch the program it will do as it does if it was actually installed under the real windows XP operating system and that is not load at all.

The MVP software has a lot of prolems on any operating system in that when you launch the program it will load but wont display anything at all.

The task manager below shows the MVP program running but there is actually no program actually open to access the TV tuner etc. This is another problem which wont be fixed, the goo news is that there are plenty of other programs out there that will work fine with this hardware. MCE will work fine with this unit.

So after all of that the hardware works fine but the software doesn’t, this is not a vista problem but a problem with the Lifeview MVP software.

  • Ron Chinoy: I got it to work under both vista and XP. Look for drivers for a card called S2
Load those. After you load the S2 drivers. Life View works fine. So it seems to be a Driver issue.Admin I have sent repeated e-mails to GDB no response. I would like to know how to transfer my handy cam tapes to the Laptop with this software.Vista Now Detects this card as the NXP (Philips IC used).
Whats the best way to get a response from GDB. Im in India.

This device wont capture video from an external source unless you have a composite A/V to RF converter box.
GDB only provide support to Australian Customers and also they don’t deal with most of these TV tuners anymore.
Is the LR540 (TV Walker Twin actually the device that you have?)

  • Hi Jim. I have only used this unit on my Vista home basic laptop and the drivers (xp ones) install fine and the device appears to work correctly. But I can never get the lifeview MVP software to display, if you check the task manager it is running but nothing is showing.
I have never been able to get around this on Vista, so I am afraid that I can’t be much more help.
Lifeview never really worked on that software or updated it, they don’t exist as a company any more so no further updates will come out for any of there hardware etc. I work for http://www.gdbint.com.au and we use to import there range of products so i have tested this TV walker twin on many operating systems..

If you do manage to get it working then let me know how you did it.

This unit works perfectly under Linux.

There is free viewing software that you can use like progdvb ( http://www.progdvb.com ) – I haven’t personally used the TV Walker twin with this software.

Hi Jason, thanks for your help & inf. I got the drivers & mvp to install under Vista Ultimate SP1. The drivers are shown working as per you screen dumps, but neither MCE or MVP work. I have many other cards working, but not these. If I launch MVP without the device pluged in MVP GUI comes up; but does not display when the drivers/device is present. MCE with the drivers loaded, eventualy (runs very slooooow) tells me there is no tuner present.
Any ideas? Anyone else had sucess?

    Jim
