postheadericon Firefox general information

This has now turned into a general Firefox information and usage page.

I have firefox posta all over my site but here is one of the better ones.

Most of the options are still there but have been improved upon, like the applications list where you can choose how firefox opens or what it does with a certain file (eg. what program you want to use to read .pdf documents)

The downloads window has been really improved.

  • Built in pause optin on most of the downloads.
  • Built in virus scanning (if you have a virus scanner installed I assume)

On the bottom right of the firefox window it tells you that it is downloading files and the time left.

As I said above it has built in virus scanning (or uses your installed virus scanner) to scan for files.

AVG come up with the below message when firefox was scanning (good to know that AVG works). That file is the system test files from this security site.

firefox 3

Also Windows Defender come up with this message (also nice to see that windows defender works and isn’t just sitting in the background doing nothing)

firefox 3

When you start typing something into the address bar it comes up with the below which is a real nice feature.

firefox 3

search bar

Another nice feature that I haven’t noticed in other versions of Firefox is that when you start typing into the google search in the upper right hand corner of firefox it comes up with a list of searches as in the image below (also notice the number 3 in the image below is the Tab Counter plugin which still works with firefox 3 beta 4)

Other changes include.

  • Fast start up times when firefox is launched.
  • Tab save feature (which I use a lot)
  • Switching between tabs seems quicker.
  • Firefix users less memory (which isn’t really a problem since I have 4.0gb of system ram)

Here are the shortcut keys for Firefox

  • Ctrl+K : Quick access the the search box
  • F6 – Address bar access
  • F5 – Reload/refresh the page
  • Ctrl + shift + t : Opens the last closed tab
  • Ctrl + f – Find / search what you want on the current page
  • Ctrl + w – Close the current selected/viewed tab
  • Ctrl + t – Opens a new tab
  • Ctrl + u – View the source of the page
  • F11 – View the page in full-screen – same as in most browser I think
